The Covington Police Department said they would like to address some confusion and rumors currently circulating online.
Yesterday morning, a juvenile was detained as a possible suspect in connection with a reported threat. At the time of the detention, the individual was not found to have a firearm or any dangerous weapon.
Following a thorough investigation, no evidence was uncovered to establish probable cause for an arrest or to indicate that the juvenile was responsible for an online threat. As a result, the juvenile was released to their parents and will not return to school until this matter is fully resolved.
Additionally, during the investigation, several other rumored threats were brought to their attention. The Covington Police Department, in coordination with the St. Tammany Parish School System, said they are actively investigating all information related to these rumors and will continue to do so until the situation is fully addressed.
The Covington Police Department is actively investigating the origins of that post but they would like everyone to keep in mind that there are several Covington High’s in the U. S. and the threat never mentioned or displayed anything which directly related it to Covington, Louisiana.
