
Approximately 1,000 fentanyl pills were located after St. Tammany Sheriff’s deputies stopped a stolen vehicle near Abita Springs over the weekend.
Sunday evening, deputies with the St. Tammany Criminal Patrol 4th District were patrolling near the Abita Nursery Subdivision when they observed a vehicle which had been reported stolen out of Pearl River County, Mississippi.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, a 2006 Cadillac CTS. The driver was identified as James Spike, and his passenger was identified as Emelda Matthews. Both are residents of Washington Parish.
Inside the vehicle, deputies located a brake cleaner aluminum container with a false bottom. Inside the container was approximately 1,000 fraudulent fentanyl pills.
Both were arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on multiple charges.
