Coastal Environmental Services says to the City of Slidell, City of Mandeville, City of Covington, and the Town of Abita Springs that the temperatures were extremely hot and dangerous last week and it is forecasted to be even hotter this week.
These high temperatures put their team members at risk of dehydration which could lead to heat stroke. We try our best to keep everyone hydrated with fruit, Gatorade, water, and pickle juice. While the trucks do have air conditioning, the inside of the trucks are not able to cool down to a sufficient level with the engine compartment being on the inside of the truck as well as the high temperatures outside of the truck. Therefore, after conversations and approval from elected officials across the Parish, they have made the decision to adjust their daily starting time.
Effective Wednesday August 7th, they will start running residential routes at 5am. This will allow Team members to have another hour to work in cooler temperatures and finish their route an hour earlier than normal to get them out of the extremely high and dangerous temperatures as quickly as possible. They will continue with this schedule for the remainder of August as well as the month of September.
Please do not wait until the morning of your service day to place your cart(s) at the curb. They encourage all customers to please place cart(s) at the curb the night PRIOR to your service day.
