Students from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School were among the volunteers who worked for several hours this week to fill backpacks for Friday’s Back to School Bash in Hammond.
Community members and civic groups like the Hammond Kiwanis Club joined forces to help fill backpacks with pens, pencils, glue, and paper products to help children start school with all the supplies they need.
Hosted by City Court Judge Britain Sledge and Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto, the Back to School Bash promises to distribute more than 1,000 backpacks to local students.
The giveaway is this Friday, July 26, from 9 a.m. until noon at Hammond Westside Montessori School, and it is open to the public.
