Five teenagers have been arrested on multiple charges following a multi-agency pursuit that started in Covington and ended in the Hammond area.
A 16 YO female has been booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on one count each of Possession of Stolen Property, Aggravated Flight and Resisting an Officer (By Foot). A 15 YO male has been booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on the same charges as the female but with an additional count of Vehicle Theft. A 14 YO male and two 16 YO males have been booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on two counts of Vehicle Theft and one count each of Aggravated Flight and Resisting an Officer (By Foot).
In the early morning hours of Friday, July 12, the Covington Police Department attempted to pull over a vehicle following suspicious activity in a residential area. The driver instead sped off and a chase began. The pursuit ended up on I-12 into Tangipahoa Parish and then onto I-55 north with Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Louisiana State Police joining. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop near Wardline Road in the Hammond area where five occupants, all wearing masks and gloves, ran from the vehicle.
The 16 YO female was taken into custody on scene.
The remaining four male teenage suspects were located and taken into custody at various locations in the parish over the course of several hours following the incident.
It was later learned the vehicle used in the incident had been reported stolen from Tangipahoa Parish the day before.
While this investigation remains ongoing, Sheriff Gerald Sticker is grateful to partner agencies for their collaboration to end the pursuit safely for all involved and proud of the TPSO Criminal Investigations team for working quickly to locate and arrest all suspects involved.
