St Tammany Schools Superintendent Frank Jabbia reached out to school system employees after the School Board’s decision to not accept the proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Jabbia wrote that he wanted to reassure STPPS employees and entire community that they will work together as one team with input from all to move the district into the future.
He said the decision for the Board to not accept the CBA was not anticipated so they are still working out the details, but they want to provide information they do have so far. Superintendent Jabbia said they will expand the Teacher and Support Employee Panels and work with members to turn the CBA language into a handbook that will serve as an employment contract – ensuring rights and protections for all employees.
He said this school year all employees will receive a one-step increase and the state provided stipend – just as they would have under the proposed CBA. That information can be found at www.stpsb.org/compensationinfo.
Employee dental insurance coverage will remain intact.
Jabbia said the school system has always provided liability insurance for employees and will continue to do so.
And he added that while St Tammany Schools have had a union CBA in place since 1991, the majority of school districts in Louisiana operate without a union and without a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
