The National Alliance on Mental Illness New Orleans (NAMINO) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness St. Tammany (NAMIST) are proud to announce they are merging, effective July 1, 2024, forming the National Alliance on Mental Illness Southeast Louisiana (NAMI SELA).
This unification will combine the strengths and resources of two complementary organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in our region by offering support, education and advocacy for those struggling with mental health challenges across Southeast Louisiana.
NAMINO and NAMIST membership voted in favor of the merger last week. By uniting the voices of these two organizations, NAMI SELA will amplify its message and influence policymakers to prioritize mental health issues, leading to positive changes at local, state and national levels.
Nick Richard, Executive Director of NAMI SELA, said together they can present a united front to better serve the nine-parish region, take on new challenges that are impacting a more diverse audience, and provide long-term support for those struggling with mental health issues across the region.
NAMI SELA will oversee nine parishes in Southeast Louisiana – Jefferson, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington – and will integrate the leadership, staff, programming, services and facilities of both organizations.
