
On June 14, 2024, the Hammond Police Department Narcotics Division opened a criminal investigation after receiving information from a shipping provider about a package believed to contain illegal narcotics.
The HPD Narcotics Division obtained a search warrant, secured for the package and contacted the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Through a joint investigation between HPD and HSI, the package was delivered as addressed to a residence in Hammond. Upon delivery, a juvenile was observed to bring the package inside.
Quick action was taken to ensure the juvenile was not exposed to the package’s contents. The juvenile was not harmed and the Department of Child and Family Services was contacted.
A search warrant conducted at the residence resulted in locating additional suspected illegal narcotics. The following evidence was seized: Approximately 474 grams of suspected methamphetamine; Approximately 131 grams of suspected fentanyl pills; Approximately 17 grams of suspected marijuana; and Multiple items of drug paraphernalia.
38 YO Joshua Dantzler of Hammond was arrested.
Fentanyl is a very dangerous and deadly drug that has resulted in numerous overdoses across the country and taken the lives of many people. Traces of fentanyl have been located in several types of narcotics, including pills, powder cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and marijuana.
