On Monday, April 22, two female students were involved in an altercation in one of the student bathrooms at Hammond High Magnet School.
A student who walked into the restroom alerted campus officials about the altercation, and the administration responded to the scene.
One student was brought to the nurse’s station for medical attention. School officials made contact with the student’s parent, and she was taken to seek further medical attention.
The second student involved had a key that extended into a knife in her possession. She was taken into custody by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies, and she was remanded to the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center where she is facing criminal charges.
No other students were involved in this altercation.
Superintendent Melissa Stilley said the Tangipahoa Parish School System has a stringent policy against weapons on our school campuses, and incidents like this will not be tolerated.
