Local leaders and others joined executives from DEMCO and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC Wednesday to break ground on Louisiana’s newest solar energy project – the Amite Solar Energy Center.
The Amite Solar Energy Center is located in Tangipahoa Parish and will have the capacity to generate up to 100 megawatts of solar energy.
Construction will create up to 200 construction jobs, and stimulate the purchase of regional goods and services from local vendors.
Stuart McCurdy, vice president of development at NextEra Energy Resources, the world’s largest generator of wind and solar energy, as well as a world leader in battery storage, said the solar energy project will generate low-cost, homegrown energy and provide millions of dollars in additional tax revenue to Tangipahoa Parish over the life of the project. A subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources will build, own and operate the project.
