A man wanted by Bogalusa Police Department for attempted murder is now behind bars following a traffic stop in St. Tammany over the weekend.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday (March 2) night, a criminal patrol deputy with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s 4th District, stopped a 2020 Chrysler 300 near the intersection of Highway 21 and Highway 59 in Covington after observing the driver violating various traffic laws.
Seated in the rear seat of the vehicle was Jimmerious Smith (DOB 9/09/2005), who was wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier this year outside a Bogalusa high school. Smith was wanted by Bogalusa Police for Attempted Second Degree Murder, Illegal Use of Weapons, Aggravated Criminal Damage and Possession of a Firearm in a Firearm Free Zone.
The driver was cited for the traffic violations and released.
A concealed firearm, believed to be connected to the crime scene in Bogalusa, was seized from Smith during the traffic stop.
