Southeastern Louisiana University made an effort to clarify some media coverage yesterday afternoon, saying some media outlets reported inaccurate information about Southeastern’s campus.
Southeastern said the campus was never on lockdown.
The school added that in cooperation with the Hammond Police Department, North Oak Park was closed during an incident but there was never any threat to campus.
Southeastern puts out safety messages in an overabundance of caution to ensure students, faculty and staff are informed. These notices ensure that the campus stays safe. Again, the media reports were incorrect. An all clear message for North Oak Park was issued just after 5 PM and campus remained fully open.
Meanwhile Hammond Police reported that one suspect was in custody, but they were unable to locate the second suspect. They believe he left the area, via vehicle. HPD said the heavy police presence in the area of N. Oak St. around Southeastern Louisiana University and Whitmar Acres was due to a suspect on foot who ran from a stolen vehicle.
