LPSO says on January 9, 2024, four men were traveling I-12 in a brown Hyundai Santa Fe.
They took the Albany exit and stopped at a residence on Louisiana Highway 43.
Sheriff Jason Ard says one suspect knocked on a 91 YO’s door. The suspect acted as if he knew the victim and was allowed inside. A second suspect then entered with a roll of vinyl flooring. One distracted the female while trying to sell her flooring while the other entered the victim’s bedroom. The suspects stole jewelry. The other two suspects waited in the vehicle. Detectives were able to obtain solid information on the suspects despite the suspect’s best efforts to avoid detection – for example, attempting to conceal a license plate.
Apparently, their ruse of selling vinyl door-to-door is popular outside of Livingston Parish, too.
LPSO detectives learned they were back in the area and stopped them in Denham Springs after they attempted to con someone else. The following were arrested for 2 counts each of Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling: Patrick Mack, 54, of South Carolina; Thomas Riley, 62, of South Carolina; Pete Mack, 34, of South Carolina; and Thomas Mack, 59, of South Carolina.
If you know anyone else who may have been a victim of this con call the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 686-2241 x1 or Capital Region Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
