President and CEO of St. Tammany Health System Joan Coffman was joined yesterday by Southeastern Louisiana University President Dr. William Wainwright and Northshore Technical Community College Chancellor Dr. James Carlson for a ribbon cutting and open house for the St. Tammany Academic Center.
Many other dignitaries, including Parish President Mike Cooper, were on hand to see the 12,000-square-foot learning center, located on Highway 21 south of the hospital’s main campus, that was established by St. Tammany Health System in partnership with Southeastern Louisiana University and Northshore Technical Community College.
This joint educational initiative was developed to grow the local healthcare workforce through nursing and other healthcare courses offered by two continuing education institutions.
The facility boasts numerous large classrooms as well as simulators and other tools to train nurses and medical professionals.
