A Washington Parish deputy was in stable condition following a shooting during a routine traffic stop on LA Highway 38 Max Brumfield Road.
Candice Sledge with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office says the deputy, who has not yet been named, was struck in the right leg by the suspect’s vehicle while conducting a speed-related stop. The deputy then discharged his firearm, successfully striking the rear driver’s side tire of the accelerating vehicle. The male driver escaped into nearby woods but was apprehended after a foot chase. The female passenger remained with the car and was taken into custody.
The male suspect’s identity has been revealed to be Brian Elius Archuleta. He has been charged with being a fugitive of another district, resisting by flight and resisting an officer. Archuleta is being held without bond.
Louisiana State Police Investigators have been requested by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate the deputy-involved shooting.
