The Department of Environmental Quality has confirmed a spill in the Port of Manchac Thursday evening.
According to DEQ, one barrel of synthetic drilling mud at Air Products spilled in the Port of Manchac.
Officials say an environmental cleanup contractor was on site, and the spill was contained. LDEQ is investigating the spill.
Air Products has been at the center of attention in Livingston and surrounding parishes for over a year. The chemical giant has plans for a $4.5 billion hydrogen manufacturing complex in Ascension Parish that would use carbon capture technology to capture emissions and inject 5 million tons of carbon dioxide per year about a mile below the lakebed.
The Air Products hub is expected to be on the south end of Livingston Parish underneath Lake Maurepas. It is one of three areas the company looks to store CO2 involving the hydrogen energy complex in Ascension Parish.
