Armstrong International Airport’s new westbound I-10 flyover ramp opens at 7 a.m. today.
The new Exit 221A is part of a $125 million project to assist traffic to and from the terminal that opened in 2019 on the north side of the airport. The ramp lets drivers bypass stoplights, Loyola Drive congestion and the Veterans Memorial Boulevard intersection on their way to the $1.3 billion terminal.
Drivers approaching from the opposite direction will continue to take Exit 221 to Loyola to reach the airport.
In about two weeks, the second part of the project is expected to open, a flyover ramp from the airport to eastbound I-10.
The project also adds a fourth lane in each direction to I-10 between Loyola and Williams Boulevard.
