St. Tammany Parish Library (STPL) is gearing up to celebrate their fifth annual TeenTober — a nationwide celebration throughout the month of October which started in 2019, to celebrate teens, promote year-round teen services, highlight available resources and activities, and most of all encourage teens to read for enjoyment.
This month-long event is spearheaded by the STPL Teen Services Department. This Department offers innovative and creative services for teens year-round to help them learn new skills, and to fuel their passions both inside and outside the library.
As part of TeenTober, STPL is offering Teen Amnesty Month. Throughout the month of October, replacement library card fees are waived for teens ages 12-18. In addition, overdue book fines for items checked out on teens’ cards are waived as well.
The Teen Department will highlight four areas of interest for TeenTober 2023. Week One: Books & Reading. Sign up for the free monthly Teen Book Tote Subscription Service at sttammanylibrary.org/teens and choose your theme for November’s Teen Book Tote. Week Two: Gaming. Registration is now open for popular Video and Table Top Gaming events. Week Three: Arts, Crafting & Cooking STREAM-Style. Sign up for the free autumn-themed Teen Arts & Crafts Tote. Learn a new craft skill in the Design Lab workshop. Attend the new cooking club, the Snack Crew, where we feature an after-school snack to make and enjoy. Week 4: Library Service. Visit the teen librarians to learn about free services like HomeworkLA (offering free online tutoring), Career One Stop, LA Driving Tests, and downloadable book apps.
