Mayor LaToya Cantrell has chosen who she wants to become the next NOPD Superintendent.
In something of a surprise move, Anne Kirkpatrick was selected on Monday to lead NOPD.
Interviews were held last month with the three finalists. Those finalists were Interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork, Anne Kirkpatrick, and David Franklin.
Mayor Cantrell sent out a statement late Monday afternoon that said following an extensive, nationwide search, she was grateful that Anne Kirkpatrick had accepted the opportunity to lead the New Orleans Police Department and continue improving the city’s public safety through a collaborative, holistic approach.
Kirkpatrick has more than two decades of command experience and was the first female chief to lead the Oakland Police Department. She is also a political consultant and has worked with the FBI. She also has a law degree.
Kirkpatrick will need at least four votes from New Orleans City Council members to get the job.
