A controversial development along the lakefront was halted by the Mandeville City Council last night.
The Mandeville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to stall plans for the proposed multimillion-dollar retirement community.
Before the vote there was some public comment and then the council discussed the pros and cons of a proposal that would have changed the zoning of the land from residential use to combined use, allowing for both an apartment complex and proposed amenities including a hotel and marina.
With the unanimous vote against the amended ordinance, the developers are back to square one if they want to move forward with the property.
The land was donated to the LSU Health Foundation by the Copeland family. LSU Health leased the property to Woodward Interests, and the developers pledged 60 percent of the proceeds from leasing fees would go toward cancer research.
