From our weather partners at WDSU: New Orleans tied an all-time record high temperature of 102 yesterday.
The record was set August 22, 1980.
Slidell set an all-time high record of 104.
More records are forecast to be topped through Sunday as excessive Heat Warnings and Weather Alert Days continue. We’ve now met or set 22 record highs. This Summer we have had 13 – 100 degree days at the New Orleans Airport. 3 of those were 101 degree days.
We’ve also set records for consecutive 100 degree days. Before this year, that stretch was only 2 consecutive days. From August 5 through the 7 we broke that record streak at 3 days, then from August 10 through the 15 we doubled it at 6.
And we’re far from done with this current heat wave. More records could fall all the way into next week. That’s why excessive heat warnings are likely to continue.
