At a press conference yesterday, Slidell Police said over the last three months, in conjunction with the FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations, they have worked on a joint operation deemed “Operation Heat Wave”.
The summer operation was led by the Slidell Police Department’s Narcotics Division, whose primary focus was to combat illegal drugs and violent crime within the City of Slidell.
Many of the investigations extended way beyond the borders of Slidell, which led them to partner with the FBI, DEA, and HSI, who provided a tremendous amount of resources to help make the operation successful.
Accomplishments included the largest Fentanyl seizure in the history of St. Tammany Parish, 11.5 Kilos of Fentanyl with an estimated street value of over $300K, a Second-Degree Murder Indictment of 44 YO Rodney Reynolds from Slidell, 19 guns, most of which were stolen and used in violent crimes, 131 arrests, a vast selection of illegal drugs, 3 stolen vehicles were recovered, over $43,000 was seized, along with 2 vehicles.
Throughout the operation, the Slidell Police Traffic Division, and newly formed Crime Suppression Unit (CSU), were instrumental with assisting in the takedown of several street level drug traffickers.
Chief Randy Fandal said Operation Heat Wave undoubtedly made a direct impact on lowering violent crime in the City of Slidell.
