Father Mark Beard was killed in a car crash on Wednesday, August 2, according to the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Fr. Beard was the pastor at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite.
Beard was killed in a single vehicle accident around 1:20 pm near the Mississippi-Louisiana state line. He was southbound on I-55 when his vehicle left the roadway, went into the median and struck a culvert, causing the vehicle to overturn. Another wreck occurred in the northbound lane at the same time, reportedly resulting in multiple injuries.
The bishop asks for prayers for Beard and his family, parishoners, and friends who mourn his loss.
He was 62 YO.
