
The Hammond Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation of the recent officer-involved shooting.
At the end of the investigation, the facts will be presented to the Twenty First Judicial District Attorney’s Office for review.
Per HPD policy, all officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, and an internal administrative investigation will also be conducted.
The suspect, 41 YO Lionell Jackson of Hammond, was taken to North Oaks Medical Center and will be booked upon his release.
When the search warrant was executed, Jackson had two active charges for Distribution of Schedule II Narcotics for more than 600 suspected fentanyl pills. At the conclusion of this incident, Jackson will be charged with one count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics, one count of Obstruction of Justice (Evidence Tampering), five counts of Possession of Legend Drugs, and one count of Illegal Possession of a Firearm while in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.
The HPD Narcotics Division is continuing to investigate narcotics distribution by the suspect.
