Yesterday Hammond Police announced they responded on Saturday, July 8 to the 1200 block of Willow Street for a shooting that took place inside a residence.
During the investigation it was determined a 14 YO accidentally shot a 13 YO, who succumbed to those injuries. The 14 YO was placed into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center for negligent homicide.
There has been no further update as of this morning from HPD.
Several media outlets are reporting that the victim’s mother said she and her daughter were visiting friends over the weekend. Her daughter was with a group of kids in a room when a gunshot was fired. The adults ran into the room to find the victim shot in the head. The victim was described as a fun child. She played basketball at Neesom Middle School. The school is providing additional resources this week for students and staff mourning her loss. The school has also listed details of the victim’s memorial service.
