Yesterday, at 12:49 pm, the Covington Police Department responded to St. Scholastica Academy following a report of a subject with a firearm inside a building on campus.
Members of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana DOC Probation and Parole Covington District quickly responded as well.
Officers were advised a parent called 9-1-1 after receiving a text message from her daughter regarding a subject with a firearm on campus. Initial responding units arrived on campus approximately one minute after being advised of the situation and began immediately clearing school buildings. It was later determined that this was a false alarm, and no one had witnessed a subject with a firearm within a campus building.
Shortly before the parent’s call was received, CPD was finishing an investigation regarding a subject on a bicycle riding through downtown Covington with a firearm. Officers quickly located that subject and determined he was transporting the firearm from his residence to a local pawn shop. Officers determined the subject was legally allowed to possess firearms and was transporting his firearm in accordance with Louisiana Revised Statutes, and no arrest was warranted.
Both incidents are believed to be related.
Both St. Scholastica Academy and St. Peter School were placed on lockdown during this incident.
