Mandeville Mayor Clay Madden said since he served on the City Council he supported the idea of purchasing property on the west side of Mandeville for a public park.
When he became Mayor in 2020, the city council budgeted money in the Land Purchases line item with the intent of buying property for both green space and parks. Madden said he is happy to report that a purchase agreement has been executed between the City of Mandeville and the owners of the property known as “12X “, which is the 8.92-acre property just to the west of the Causeway. It is currently a wooded area.
This purchase agreement is subject to approval by the City Council and the city would then enter into to the due diligence period.
Madden’s vision for this property is to extend the bike path that currently cuts under the overpass to get from west Mandeville into Old Mandeville. After the city successfully purchases the land, they would add it to the currently ongoing “Recreational Master Plan”. A site plan would be created for the entire parcel, with input from both the city council and residents. And he said his personal preference is for the property to stay mostly wooded, while adding an area for a destination family-friendly park and possibly a scenic nature trail/lake viewing area of some sort in the future.
Madden said the property has a huge benefit for all Mandeville residents.
