St Tammany Outreach for the Prevention of Suicide, with the help of The Jason Foundation and The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, is excited to share the suicide prevention and intervention trainings available locally.
Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in Louisiana and the 2nd leading cause of death for those between 10-24 years of age.
It is no secret that in past years, suicide rates in St. Tammany Parish exceeded national and state averages. STOPS is determined to prevent suicide in our community. By educating yourselves and those around you, you are taking a proactive step in preventing suicide and can intervene before a life is lost.
A Youth Suicide and Prevention Seminar for Parents and Communities was developed by The Jason Foundation. This 1 hour and 15-minute training is designed for adults in the community- from lay person to professional. This training covers youth suicide awareness and prevention.
Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention is for Adults 18+. This training is brought to you by the The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This 45–60-minute community-based presentation with a Q & A that covers the general scope of suicide. Topics include Research, Prevention, and What You Can Do. Contact STOPS to arrange this training with AFSP.
STOPS will continue to offer ASIST, safeTalk, and suicideTalk training sessions.
