
A strong line of severe storms passed through the area Wednesday evening.
A tornado warning was issued for a portion of St. Helena Parish and Tangipahoa Parish around 5 p.m. The warning was extended about an hour later. Another tornado warning was reissued for Tangipahoa Parish around 7:18 p.m. for the areas of Fluker and Roseland.
Last night TPSO Chief Jimmy Travis confirmed the touchdown of a tornado in the Village of Tangipahoa. He said numerous homes were damaged, including a mobile home which was flipped. Three injuries were reported, none of which were life threatening. The area of Center Street (Hwy 440) near and Martin Luther King Dr. (Hwy 1050) in the Village were impassable as of last night. All motorists were encouraged to avoid the area.
Hammond Firefighters along with fighters from LA TF 9 were among the emergency response teams on the ground in the Village of Tangipahoa doing primary searches of the area affected. The searches revealed only minor injuries.
