
Last week according to DA Scot Perrilloux 43 Y Oejuan Otta Kelly, Jr. of Independence was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 30 years incarcerated for the felony charge of Domestic Abuse Battery-4th Offense.
The first three years are to be served without benefits, and a protective order against him will remain in place until the completion of his sentence.
The Honorable Erika W. Sledge sentenced Kelly, and Assistant District Attorney Taylor Anthony stood for the prosecution.
This conviction is Kelly’s fourth Domestic Abuse Battery conviction since 2017.
Kelly was arrested on Feb. 2, 2020, when the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call. When the Sergeant arrived on the scene, Kelly was attempting to flee the premises in a pickup truck. Kelly was stopped but continued to resist and became verbally combative towards the pregnant victim and repeatedly attempted to go near her.
