Last week 42 YO Willie Joe London of Roseland was found guilty by a jury for the felony charges of Aggravated Criminal Damage, Illegal Use Of Weapons and Attempted Second-Degree Murder, according to DA Scott M. Perrilloux.
Assistant District Attorney Joey Oubre prosecuted the case against Willie London before the Honorable Brenda B. Ricks at the Tangipahoa Parish Courthouse.
Willie London was arrested on Aug. 12 of 2021 for Attempted Second-Degree murder for shooting his niece. A 9-1-1 call during the afternoon of Aug. 5 claimed they were witnessing Willie London shoot at his niece, Roneca London, who was attempting to seek shelter behind a residence. They claimed the two were in an argument about Willie London attempting to drive after he consumed alcohol. Willie London broke the windows to Roneca London’s residence, she armed herself with a bat and broke the windows of his car, and he walked backwards into the house to retrieve an AR-15.
Deputies from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and Acadian Emergency Services transported the victim, who had been shot twice, to a local hospital for treatment.
At least nine spent cartridges were found near the front steps of Willie London’s residence, and deputies discovered multiple bullets penetrated the interior wall of a neighboring residence with small children.
No one besides Roneca London was injured.
Deputies searched the area and found Willie London sitting unarmed in an open field.
Six weeks later on Sept. 17, 2021, authorities interviewed Roneca again, and she relayed the same information. However, on July 13, 2022, she submitted an affidavit claiming she was unaware of who shot her, and she gave her earlier testimony incorrectly due to the influence of the pain medication.
Due to the serious nature of Willie London’s crime DA Scott M. Perrilloux continued with the prosecution of Willie Joe London.
The jury deliberated for approximately two hours and found him guilty.
