Car theft is a crime that affected people across New Orleans in 2022.
More than 4,000 cars were stolen in the city last year according to the New Orleans City Council crime dashboard. That is an increase of over 35 percent from last year when 2,960 cars were stolen.
One man who was delivering gifts on Christmas Day took matters into his own hands and successfully foiled a car theft attempt. A former New Orleans Police Department commander, and security expert, says people in the city are frustrated with the crime but that they should never take matters into their own hands. The potential victim said in hindsight, there were better decisions he could have made, but he is fed up with crime and that we expect police and municipal leaders to do what is necessary to protect its citizens.
