Friday night, shortly after 5:45 p.m., Troopers from State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 21 near Quave Road in Washington Parish.
The crash claimed the life of 50 YO Ben Small of Covington.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Small was wearing dark clothing and walking in the roadway on LA Hwy 21. At the same time, a 2012 GMC Acadia was southbound on LA Hwy 21. For reasons still under investigation, Small was struck by the GMC. Small sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the GMC was properly restrained, but sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from Small and the driver of the GMC for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
