Tangipahoa Parish fire officials were on the scene of a large fire in Hammond last night.
The fire started at a pallet company on Landry Lane.
TPSO closed Old Baton Rouge Highway between Hood Road and Millie Road due to the blaze. Fire officials said that there was heavy smoke in the area and asked residents to use alternate routes if traveling near the site.
Hammond Fire Department said last night that the fire was contained but there are still areas of fire that will burn through the night. Hammond Rural Fire Dept remained on station through the night to keep watch over it. HFD thanked all the fire departments that responded to this large fire. They said it took a team effort, but the fire was stopped before it reached any residences.
No injuries were reported.
They said hundreds of thousand of gallons of water were used to stop a fire driven by wind and very dry conditions.
