Yesterday Parish President Mike Cooper condemned the shooting which injured two people near the St. Tammany Parish Fair Saturday evening.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of N. 33rd Avenue and W. Filmore Street in Covington, less than one block from the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds.
Cooper said for the first time in three years, thousands of families were enjoying the Parish Fair, before chaos erupted due to gunshots nearby. He said thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported at the Fairgrounds; however, that does not diminish the fear and panic experienced by fairgoers.
President Cooper said he was incredibly thankful for local law enforcement agencies, who ran toward the gunfire at the scene and protected families at the Fairgrounds. He said their involvement eliminated further escalation, while guarding innocent bystanders.
