
On Saturday, October 1, at approximately 8:00 PM the Covington Police Department responded to calls of shots fired at the intersection of W. 33rd Ave and N. Filmore St.
Officers were quickly on the scene and discovered two people were injured with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The two victims were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The Covington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division urges members of the public who may have knowledge of this incident to contact the Covington Police Department at 985-892-8500. Citizens can also submit tips anonymously through their free app called, “Covington PD”.
On Friday morning the Covington Police Department received an anonymous tip that there was a possible threat of a shooting at the St Tammany Parish Fair that was being circulated on social media. Covington Police said they immediately took action to locate the origin of the rumor. It was discovered that there was no credible threat and that the juvenile posted this to generate fear within the community.
The juvenile (who will not be named due to being a juvenile) was arrested for violation of Terrorizing.
To put everyone at further ease the Covington Police Department and the St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office beefed up their presence at the St Tammany Parish Fair.
