Reid Copeland, the former Denham Springs Police Officer accused of having sex with a minor, waived extradition at a hearing yesterday.
Copeland was arrested in Texas as a fugitive wanted from Louisiana.
Copeland resigned from the Denham Springs Police Department last Thursday after the allegations came to light.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office handled the criminal investigation of Copeland.
After deputies could not locate Copeland, warrants were put out for his arrest. He was wanted for felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and malfeasance in office.
Deputies spent days searching for him until they were able to finally arrest him in Irvin, TX, right outside of Dallas.
Once Copeland is returned to Louisiana, most likely next week, he will go to the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
