
Yesterday the Drug Enforcement Administration recognized National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, hoping to continue educating communities about the dangers of fentanyl.
Experts say fentanyl is approximately 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine.
An estimated 107,622 people in the United States died of drug overdoses in 2021, according to the CDC. Synthetic opioids like fentanyl were blamed for 67 percent of the 2021 deaths.
Dr. Chuck Preston, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner, has been very vocal about fentanyl. He said two overdose deaths in July clearly shows the dangers of fentanyl-laced pills in Louisiana. A 15 YO from Bush died after taking multiple pills and a 22 YO from Slidell died after taking just one pill.
