As of yesterday, barricades had been removed and traffic was once again moving across a new bridge on Sisters Road east of Ponchatoula.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said the bridge opened a week ahead of schedule.
Closed in early March, the project addressed several safety issues on the heavily traveled parish roadway. The parish acquired right-of-way to remove a dangerous curve in the middle of the bridge. Crews were then tasked with re-developing the narrow bridge into a straightaway, which was widened across two full lane spans.
Miller reminds drivers that the speed limit is still 25 mph in that area.
