St. Tammany Parish Government continues to help eligible citizens through rent and utility assistance.
Since its inception in 2020, the St. Tammany Rental Assistance Program (STRAP) has provided approximately $9 million in federal funding for rental and utility assistance to more than 1,100 residents.
St. Tammany Parish Government is also facilitating assistance for homeowners and renters with disconnect notices through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
To find out more information or apply, please call St. Tammany Parish Government’s Community Action Agency at (985) 646-2090 (Slidell) or (985) 893-3923 (Covington).
In order to qualify for assistance through STRAP, tenants must meet the program income requirements and provide government Identification, a valid lease, details of back due rent, evidence of financial hardship, and proof of housing instability.
Assistance is paid directly to landlords or utility providers on the tenant’s behalf.
Initially designed to help reimburse landlords for back due rent, STRAP was revised to aid with payment of utility services to renters experiencing financial hardship. St. Tammany Parish is currently taking applications for STRAP assistance.
If you would like more information or have any questions about the program, please submit them to STRAP@stpgov.org or call (985) 898-3016.
Appointments are preferred.
