From the weekend the Louisiana Department of Health reported 2,433 new COVID cases.
Of the newly reported COVID cases, 706 were reinfections (defined as a positive viral COVID-19 test in an individual with a previous positive test at least 90 days prior).
562 were hospitalized, of which 25 were on ventilators.
The largest shares of the newly reported cases were among ages 5-17 (18%) and ages 70+ (15%).
Of the newly reported cases, 18% came from Region 1 (Greater New Orleans area), and 16% came from Region 7 (Northwest area).
10 additional COVID deaths were reported.
Louisiana is currently experiencing its sixth COVID-19 surge. CDC and LDH recommend everyone ages 6 months and above be vaccinated against COVID-19, and that everyone ages 5 and up should get boosted as soon as they are eligible.
