
The Louisiana Department of Health says the state is currently experiencing a “surge within a surge” thanks to the emergence and dominance of the BA.5 variant in HHS Region 6 which includes Louisiana.
Yesterday 3,671 new #COVID cases were reported.
Of the newly reported COVID cases, 799 were reinfections (defined as a positive viral COVID-19 test in an individual with a previous positive test at least 90 days prior).
700 people were hospitalized.
The largest shares of these newly reported cases are among ages 18-29 (17%) and ages 30-39 (15%).
They also reported 10 additional #COVID deaths.
