After a rain delay last week, DOTD will close a portion of LA 40, approximately 1.1 miles east of LA 443, to replace a failing cross drain.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said LA 40 will be closed between Narretto Road and Kerri Michael Lane until approximately 4 p.m., on Wednesday, June 1, so crews can change out a cross drain. This is a full closure, and no traffic will be allowed in the area while crews are working on the project, according to DOTD reports. Miller said detours will be posted while construction is underway.
On the issue of local road projects, Miller said construction is progressing on Fontana Road in Independence. Due to the rain, there have been delays; however, the north end of West Fontana is now completed. The contractor will begin working on the south side this coming week. As a result, truck traffic will be restricted on the south side of West Fontana during this construction period. Local traffic can use the south end; however, motorists should expect delays until construction is completed. Miller said that East Evans Road, which was used during the construction period as a truck route, will return to being a “no truck route.” Signs will be posted to reflect these changes.
This week, overlay crews will be working in the following areas: Thursday, June 2: Miling and patching on Natchez and Mooney; paving on Tantillo and T. Hardy (full width); cut cement on Morris Retreat Road; Friday, June 3: Paving on North Lee Hughes (full width); milling and patching on South Elm Street, and Dummyline Road; Saturday, June 4: Paving on North Lee Hughes (full width); milling and patching on South Elm Street and Dummyline Road; cut cement on Morris Retreat Road. In addition to overlay work, parish crews will close a portion of Sticker Lane where it intersects with Arnold Road on Wednesday, June 1, to change out a cross drain. The road will be closed from 8 a.m. until noon. No traffic will be allowed during that period. On Thursday, parish crews will be changing a cross drain on Shingle Mill Road at its intersection with Wadesboro Road. The roadway will be closed from 8 a.m., until noon, and no traffic will be allowed through the area during the construction period. All road work will be posted on the day of construction, Miller said.
