There was a massive police response after a shooting Thursday night during the Hammond High School graduation ceremony at Southeastern’s University Center.
Sources said shortly after the incident that the shooter was in custody.
On hand for the initial press conference at the Southeastern’s Lab School were Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron, TPSO Chief Deputy Jimmy Travis, Tangipahoa Schools Superintendent Melissa Stilley, and others.
Police Chief Bergeron spoke to the media and said that it was no longer an active situation. He said four individuals were struck. He said he did not believe any students were hit by the gunfire. Bergeron said the injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.

Melissa Stilley said they had a normal graduation ceremony inside the University Center. She said when the graduates were ready to dismiss shots rang out once individuals were outside.
Chief Travis said numerous law officers were on hand for the event and once the shooting began law officers got control of the situation very quickly.
Officials would not speculate more on the shooting itself or what set it off. They gave out numbers and websites for individuals to use to provide information or videos and said more information would be out soon.
