
On Tuesday morning at 7:29 a.m., the Amite City Police Department responded to the 500 block of North First Street in reference to a vehicle burglary in progress.
The resident observed a black male juvenile at the passenger side of the homeowner’s vehicle with the door open.
When the suspect saw the resident coming outside, the suspect fled towards the Tangipahoa Parish Fair grounds then into a wooded area. A few moments later officers were able to arrest the suspect in the Winn-Dixie parking lot.
While the suspect was in custody, officers were informed of another vehicle burglary that occurred in the 800 block NW Central Ave. Officers were able to confirm the same juvenile committed this crime as well.
The juvenile suspect is a black male, 17, of Hammond.
The juvenile was charged with 2 counts of 14:62 Simple Burglary along with being wanted through Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office for additional charges.
