The City of Hammond has called a special meeting on Tuesday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m. to talk about the proposed redistricting plan for the City of Hammond.
A final vote is scheduled in special session this Saturday.
Re-drawing of the lines for the council districts is done every 10 years following the US Census. The purpose for this is to promote equal representation. Failure to do so could dilute the impact of votes cast by citizens in more populous districts.
There are two plans that have been developed and the Council will vote to approve one.
