The Bogalusa Fire Department reminds everyone that it is the time of the year that snakes get active.
They said most snakes in Louisiana are not venomous. However, there have been several reports of venomous copperhead snakes moving about.
They said be cautious around things in your yard like children’s toys and scooters, as they are places snakes will hide. Wood and brush piles, trash cans, lawn mowers, and boats are also popular snake hiding spots as well.
They advised that if you see a snake its best to leave it alone. It will move along on its own in time. If the unfortunate event of a bite does occur try to get a PHOTO of the snake to bring to the hospital. DO NOT attempt to capture and bring the snake.
