
Mandeville High School’s robotics team, the S.S. Prometheus (Team 2992), has won the coveted Chairman’s Award at the FIRST Robotics Competition.
The competition took place Mar. 17 through Mar. 19 in Tallahassee, FL and showcased 35 teams in rigorous robotics matches.
At the event, Team 2992 presented their work in community outreach initiatives to the panel of competition judges which earned them the Chairman’s Award from the event.
This award is highly coveted and presented to the robotics team which has accomplished the most significant and sustainable impact through the promotion of science, technology, engineering, and math.
By winning this award, Team 2992 has secured its entry into the world championship, which is set to take place Apr. 20 through Apr. 23 in Houston, TX with more than 400 teams in attendance.
In addition to winning the Chairman’s Award, Team 2992 won twenty matches during the competition and achieved the highest average match score at the event. This year, their robot Rodrigue (named after Louisiana Blue Dog artist George Rodrigue) quickly picked up and shot oversized tennis balls into a goal before climbing up a set of inclined monkey bars.
Team 2992 was established in 2008 and is a competitive robotics team made up of 20 Mandeville High School students.
