Nunez Community College is spreading the news about the M.J. Foster Promise Program.
Nunez will host a Community Open House and Foster Promise Presentation on Wednesday, March 23, from 5-7 p.m. in the Kane Technology Building on the Nunez campus.
The presentation will serve as the public’s first opportunity to ask questions about the state’s new $10.5 million annual “last dollar” award fund, which is available to Louisianans over the age of 21 who meet broad eligibility requirements.
The M.J. Foster Promise Program will be available to all Louisiana residents (21 years or older) with individual student awards available on a first-come, first-served basis.
After students complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and MJ Foster Promise applications, whatever tuition and fees aren’t covered by financial aid will be covered by the Foster Promise Program.
Nunez Chancellor Dr. Tina Tinney said this opens the door to access to all eligible citizens in the state of Louisiana. Qualifying students will be eligible to receive up to $3,200 per year or a maximum award of $6,400 if they enroll in a qualifying program at their respective college.
The Foster Promise Presentation on March 23 at Nunez will offer more details and give community members a chance to ask questions.
Applications for the Foster Promise Program open March 23 and the first awards will be disbursed in July.
Qualifying Nunez students will be able to apply their Foster Promise awards to the second Summer term, which begins July 5, and the Fall term, which begins Aug. 15.
