A convicted child molester, Brian David Matherne, was mistakenly released more than seven years too early from prison, then was back behind bars after his victims and local reporters began asking questions.
Meanwhile, before receiving word that Matherne had been imprisoned again, a WWL-TV reporter went to his address in Tangipahoa Parish seeking comment and were attacked by his brother-in-law.
Local authorities booked Bruce Verdin with three counts of aggravated battery and one of aggravated destruction of property, after he allegedly tried to hit the photographer with his truck.
Back in January, one of the victims learned that Matherne had been released 7½ years early from Rayburn Correctional Center near Angie. The victim called elected officials and the Louisiana Department of Corrections to alert them.
Matherne was sentenced to 29 years, 11 months and 29 days at hard labor, which, just shy of 30 years, prevented him from being eligible for parole at 20 years.
Matherne has since been returned to Rayburn.
